DAY 8 - THURSDAY JUNE 18th
Day 8's Manager of the Day trophy is shared by three with 11 points each. Jeff Norton started with a perfect 5 for Czechia 1 South Africa 1, following up with three correct results for 2 points each. Jeff's up 17 places from 30th to 13th and just 4 points from 4th. The other two MotD winners are on the up but with a lot more work to do, still outside our top 100. William Montague was the only one to predict Switzerland 4 Bosnia 1 for an 8-pointer, while Mara Adler's randomised scores brought in two spot-on.
Ryan Leather had a decent day with 7 points which included the correct margin for Mexico v South Korea, predicting 2-1 on a 1-0. Ryan's up to 60th place... remarkably that was a 16th correct result with no correct scores or even correct margins in the first 15. One correct margin now on the board, Ryan remains the highest placed team without a correct score.
It's now four days in a row on top for Neil Mullen, but just 4 points from four predictions on the day. Roisin Guargena failed to take full advantage with 5 points - though significantly finished the day with a 3-pointer while Neil failed to score, closing the gap to 2 points. A 10 point day for Callum Cooper sees him up to 3rd and just 3 off top spot.
In our Mini Leagues... in Bunch of auld gits FC Niall MacKenzie is the new leader, swapping 3rd/1st with Steven Jewell. Paul Willingham takes over on top of the Columbus & Friends League. Luci Metzger goes top of Metzger's league.
Norah Ettaouchi climbs 28 places to 49th with a 10 point day. Significant because Norah only entered after the first nine matches had already been played. Since joining, Norah has averaged 1.79 points per match - form which would put her fourth overall.

MEXICO 1 SOUTH KOREA 0
Neil Mullen had a draw for this one while quite a few of the chasers picked up 3 points for predicting 2-1. The gap is cut from 5 points to 2.
|
CANADA 6 QATAR 0
This one was more about those who got zero or -2 points than those who scored, with 83% picking up 2 points and, not surprisingly, no-one more than that.
|
SWITZERLAND 4 BOSNIA 1
Dear God. 0-0 until 74 minutes, 1-0 at 83, there was still time for the score to change four more times on 84, 90, 90+3 and 90+7. Points being pulled out from under us all the while. Just one manager predicted 4-1, nice work William Montague who notches his first correct score of the tournament. William remains outside the top 100, mind, although it should be noted he did start late. Two that predicted 3-0 earn 2 points, the vast majority remaining pick up 2. With 2nd and 3rd opting for 1-1, 2 points are enough to increase Neil Mullen's lead at the top to a healthy 5 points. Nick Mullen also picked up 2 and is closing in on 3rd.
|
CZECHIA 1 SOUTH AFRICA 1
A point each and 5 Predict the Scores points for 20 managers, 2 points for 12 and nothing for 106 of us. That includes our top three - as started the day, with Callum Cooper now up to 3rd, the highest placed manager with maximum points. Neil Mullen remains 3 ahead of Roisin Guargena, Callum wipes out most of the 4-point gap that had appeared between 2nd and 3rd, now 1 point behind Roisin. One change at the top in our Mini Leagues, where Richard Bounds takes over from Mike Collyer in Copa Del Mundo 2026. Anne Noble is romping away with The Hampshire Guessers, now 14 points clear. Both Richard and Anne march into the Overall League top 10, in 6th and 7th.
